Criticallyliterate.org is the passion project of Dr. Heidi Byrnes-Cloet. Heidi (she/her) is currently a literacy specialist based in Chicago and has been an educator for over 20 years, serving in teaching and leadership roles from preschool to middle school in the United States and her home country of Australia. Her doctoral research focused on creating play-based early learning experiences to support linguistically diverse children’s early literacy skill development, and positive literate and broader identity development. She is passionate about finding and co-creating resources that empower child and adult learners. She believes deeply in the need for self-work and community to build a more equitable, sustainable, and joy-filled world.
